Before anything can bloom.
Four silk scarves drawn from the Amazon, where Nina’s story begins: its macaws, its flowers and the geometric art of the Indigenous peoples of Brazil.
“Fashion can go beyond aesthetics. It can tell stories, honor cultures, spark reflection and awaken awareness.”
When I began creating Roots, I wanted to bring something of my origins, of my Brazilian identity and of one of the greatest treasures our country holds: the Amazon. It is much more than a forest. It is life, culture and history, home to thousands of species and to peoples who carry knowledge and traditions across generations.
Its colors, its flora and fauna, the beauty of the macaws, the richness of Indigenous graphic patterns and the handcraft of the original peoples were my greatest inspirations. Each print was designed to translate a little of that beauty into art, into movement, into something that could travel to different places in the world.
That richness is still threatened by fires, deforestation and the loss of habitats. When a forest disappears we lose more than trees: we lose biodiversity, history and part of a heritage that belongs to future generations. These scarves are small expressions of a wealth that deserves to be known, admired and, above all, preserved.
